Welcome to the Saturday Night Live page. Here you will get a whole load of information on the show. I will include links, pics, reviews and previews, transcripts, cast biographies, information about recurring skits and other things.
Host: Ben Affleck Musical Guest: N.E.R.D Airdate: 13/03/04
The opening skit - was actually very enjoyable. Swinging from the tradition politcial panel they went to the "Boston Teens" skit where their best friend is having a gay marriage. Though it is not SNL'S style to have the host in the opening skit (I guess they feel that it takes away any suspence for people who don't know who is hosting.) Ben Affleck actually fit the role well.
The Monolouge - was the best in a long time. I liked how he just did his thing and did not have a whole bunch of castmembers come up to do a bit. The jokes about "Beniffer" will last a long time.
The filming of Gigli - skit was another great segment. Fred Armisen continues to prove his worth on the show.
Top o' The morning - made another appearance on the show with its signature hosts of an Irish show taking place in a bar.
N.E.R.D - I have to say that the music was rancid. The band had no tune, style, stage prescence or just plain talent. The gropu did a bad job hosting and should not come back.
My thoughts - The episode was well hosted by Ben Affleck who made his second appearance on the show this time. The starstruck girls in the crowd would not stop cheering which took away from the episode. Musical guest was horrible and almost put me to sleep. I think the choices of skits were well done and he did well hosting.
In all I give this episode a 3 stars out of 4 rating.
Host: Christina Aguleira Musical Guest: Maroon 5 21/02/04
The opening skit - Well another "Hardball" delivers as a very funny skit that gave nice leadway into the rest of the episode.
The Monolouge - Probably my favorite monolouge of the season. The focus was on Christina Aguleiras choice of clothing. The monolouge has all the males in the cast (including Lorne Michaels) oggling over her and asking her to get more skanky. The monolouge however was crushed by hr havig to sing.
Sex and the Cty parody - Here we saw the first of Christina's acting ability. The skit was funny and I have to say that the actign by Christina was actually very well done.
History Chanel celebration of women week - The skit was funny but not strategically set up.
Maroon 5 - Horrible! if SNL can't book some decent musical guests I might stop bothering watching them. They are all pop rock performances that make you want to hurl. What happened to the days of rock, punk and TRUE rap!
My thoughts - Christina Aguleira pulled it off but still played herself to many times. As earlier mentioned I hated the musical guest. The skits were a pleasure to watch but my memories of this episode are tainted with Maroon 5 performance. Oh yeah and I am sick of seeing the Huggies thong parody adds. Even if you do not want to produce knew ones at least use "Gaystrogen" or "Tylenol Extreme." Those were just as good if not better and they get way less play.
I have to give this episode a 3 stars out of 4 rating.
Here are a list of a few recurring skits that are currently still being used. (coming soon: brief synopsis of appearances and characters!)
Hardball - Darrel Hamond plays the role of "Chris Mathew" the host of harball. Every episode guests come on and he yells at them and shouts. Very funny indeed!
Top o' the Morning - Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers play "Patrick Fitzwilliam" and "William Fitzpatrick" who host a show out of an Irish bar in the middle of the night (sometimes). This is a great skit.
Wake up Wakefield - "Megan" played by Maya Rudolph and "Sheldon" played by Ratchel Dratch have their own tv show they usually tape from the audio/visual department at their school. It depicts Sheldon as the nerdy friend who is very logical and interverted and Megan as the lusting girl who faces boyfriend troubles all the time.
The Falconer - "Ken Mortimer" played by Will Forte and his hawk companion are deep in a froest each week. It is funny but most of the skits have the identical plot. He is in a trap and The Falcon has to go help him. The falcon has an opportunity but chooses a fun adventure. In the end the falcon redeems himself.
Jarret's Room - A carefree college student "Jarret" played by Jimmy Fallon hosts a live webcam show from his dorm with his best friend and roommate "Gobi" played by Horatio Senz. Each episode they have guests come on and normally lose any format a few minutes in.
